Officials willing to allow mobile carts at Sanvordem bridge

SANGUEM

Officials on Monday were willing to permit fish and vegetable vendors to conduct mobile business with no permanent structures near the Sanvordem bridge, provided the vendors ensured strict cleanliness at the site.

After being forced to dismantle permanent structures of fish and fruit vendors by the roadside near the Sanvordem bridge following directives of the PWD, the Sanvordem panchayat, at the request of the aggrieved vendors, approached authorities to permit fruit and fish vendors to continue at the site purely as mobile vendors without any permanent structures.

PWD officials along with the Curchorem UPHC Health Officer Dr Mohanrao Dessai and Sanvordem Sarpanch Sandeep Pauskar visited the spot and worked out modalities for the operation of fish and fruit vendors at the spot.

During the site visit, the health officer informed vendors and panchayat authorities that cleanliness needs to be strictly followed while conducting the business.

Dr Dessai directed the vendors not to release any dirty water into roadside drains and not to dump any fish and vegetable waste by the roadside and the river bank.

Sarpanch Sandip Pauskar said the panchayat would take care of garbage daily, but at the same time appealed to vendors not to litter the place. He advised them to keep all litter in one place so that panchayat workers could collect it on regular basis.

The vendors agreed to abide by conditions imposed by health and panchayat authorities and also assured to conduct the business purely temporarily in the morning session.

The health officer informed vendors that he would depute a team to inspect the site after a few days to ensure compliance by the vendors.
