A kidnapping attempt involving a 6-year-old girl was thwarted late Thursday night in Khalap-vaddo, Canca, after alert locals intervened, forcing the suspect to abandon the child and flee the scene.
The incident occurred around 9.45 pm along the busy Mapusa-Calangute road. According to eyewitnesses, the unidentified man allegedly picked up the child from outside her third-floor apartment and carried her down while holding her on his shoulder.
The girl’s screams alerted nearby residents, who raised an alarm. Startled, the accused dropped the girl and escaped on foot.
Sources confirmed that the building is equipped with CCTV surveillance, and the entire incident was captured on camera. The footage is expected to aid in identifying and apprehending the suspect.
Mapusa Police responded swiftly and have launched an investigation into the matter.
Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
