Chief Minister Pramod Sawant made it known via a tweet on National maritime day that he is betting on the 'Konkan Maritime Cluster' for jobs creation through the shipbuilding and ship repair sector.
Some 14,380 square meters of land at Goa Industrial Development Corporation's (GIDC) estate at Verna has been allotted by the Goa government to develop a common facility for the cluster which government sources say will be the country's first.
"We aim to create world class facilities for ship designers and builders, repairers and marine equipment manufacturers. This will induce major employment generation in our State,” Sawant said in his tweet on National Maritime Day.
Earlier in October, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had laid the foundation stone of the Common Facility Centre at Verna via video conferencing.
Gadkari had claimed that Goa being a maritime State more maritime industries as expertise was already available.
The cluster development programme is a scheme of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises which Gadkari hoped would be a growth engine for Goa and create employment potential for Goan youth.
