Health Minister was unsuccessful in dodging a pointed question from the media about the authorities’ intention to prosecute Goan political leaders for publicly violating Covid safety protocols.
As he voiced the need for enhanced restrictions to prevent the spread of Covid in Goa, the Health Minister was questioned specifically about the birthday celebration of Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte on April 2, which was attended by close to 1,000 people and had the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and BJP chief Sadanand Shet Tanavade gracing the dais without a face mask, as well as the crowded celebration of his municipal poll victory by Panaji MLA Anatasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate a day before he tested positive for Covid-19.
“The doctors are overwhelmed right now. We need to behave more responsibly. There is no point in pointing fingers at any particular individuals. At least for four more months, we need to remain cautious. This does not mean we need a lockdown but we need to impose restrictions upon ourselves learning lessons from the trend of last year,” he said cryptically.
The Minister then added a post script marking his support to Sawant and said that the CM has to ensure a balance between the economic well-being and the public health of Goa.
