Responding to the 'stop work order' for alleged developmental activities on Konko Island, representatives of the Mumbai-based developer approached Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) chief officer on Thursday.

According to Chief Officer Chandrakant Shetkar, the party has asked for more time to present papers/documents for the activities carried by them on Konko Island.

“Yes, as fixed, their representatives appeared before me and sought for more time to present their say in the matter. We have now fixed the matter for next week, on Thursday,” informed Shetkar when The Goan asked about the scheduled hearing of controversial works on Konko Island.

It may be recalled that residents of Palolem strongly objected to developmental activities carried on the Konko Island. The residents feel that it is a ecologically sensitive area providing a safety cover to the locality.

The residents took mediapersons to the site to show the activities carried out by the Mumbai-based developer on Konko Island, after which a CMC team carried out an inspection and accordingly served a stop work order to a Mumbai-based consultant.

However, sources said despite the stop work order served to the party concerned, activities are still being carried out on the island under the cover of darkness and sometimes during the day as well.
