KTC driver held for drunk driving

MAPUSA: Mapusa Police on Saturday night arrested a KTC bus driver on charges of rash and negligent driving and for being under the influence of alcohol.

The police informed that a KTC bus traveling from Mapusa to Sakhali, on reaching Tivim knocked down a security guard who fractured his leg in the process.

The accident took place at about 9.15 pm in front of the State Bank of India at Cansa-Tivim. The security guard was walking by the side of the road, police said.

The locals beat up the driver and also damaged the KTC bus (GA-03-X-0380). Mapusa Police rushed to the site and took the bus driver into custody and moved the injured pedestrian to the GMC. The doctor on duty found the driver under the influence of alcohol, even as police found a liquor ‘quarter’ in the driver’s bag.

The accused driver, Rupesh Gauns from Hivrem-Sattari was arrested under Sections 279 and 338 IPC and MV Act 185. Havaldar, Dayanand Malik is investigating further.
