As part of measures to contain the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) Chairman and Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida has said KTC authorities would disinfect buses and sanitise bus stands, with the drive beginning from Vasco on Saturday.
“In the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, the union ministry of road transport and highways has issued a new advisory on public transportation. As per this advisory, the KTCL would take requisite steps at Kadamba bus stands across the State,” said Almeida.
“We will begin the drive to disinfect all buses which we will start from Vasco on Saturday. We will also have a mass awareness drives for people who use our KTC buses. We have issued informative circulars to our drivers and staff,” added Almeida.
“We will sanitise bus stands once a day and buses will be disinfected on a weekly basis at the end of the day. Steps will be taken to disinfect seats, handles and bars in buses.”
Almeida also informed that the KTC staff have been sensitised on the issue and have been provided with masks.
“We have sensitised our staff, drivers and conductors on the dreaded Coronavirus. We have also provided the staff with masks but whether they wear them or not has to be monitored,” admitted Almeida.
“We have taken up awareness programmes with our staff depot wise. We will also have mass awareness drives for people who use our KTC buses. We have issued circulars to our drivers and staff,” said Almeida.
Sources in KTC added that some KTC officials had attended a recent meeting chaired by Health Minister Vishwait Rane at Dabolim airport, where they were informed about guidelines to be followed about Coronavirus.
