Airport Director Gagan Malik on Friday stated that screening facilities to check for symptoms of Coronavirus at Dabolim airport were only directed at international passengers, while counters were set up at the domestic terminal for informative purposes only.
Malik sought to clarify on a passenger’s claims that Dabolim airport did not have screening for domestic passengers as well, specially since dozens of Coronavirus cases were also reported in other States.
“As per instructions, only international passengers were being screened and counters were additionally set up at the domestic terminal only for informative purposes and awareness on Coronavirus.”
“There is no screening of passengers in the domestic terminal. Counters were placed at the domestic terminal to display messages on Coronavirus and to educate people using the airport,” said Malik.
“We have even replied via Twitter to a passenger who initially assumed that screening was not being done and he has also appreciated our arrangements. As far as counters at the international terminal, they will continue operating,” said Malik.
The airport director said the impact of the government’s latest decision to ban visas to foreign tourists and visa-free travel to those with OCI cards, would only be realised after a few days when the airport gets clarity on which flights have cancelled operations.
