Despite the global turmoil over Coronavirus, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday night insisted that there was no cause for panic over the dreaded disease in the State, but warned of strict action against those found selling face masks and hand sanitisers at exorbitant prices.
He also appealed to people not to unnecessarily wear face masks everywhere.
Sawant was speaking to reporters at Dabolim Airport after returning from New Delhi where he had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on different issues, including mining and the Mhadei water diversion project.
“There have been instances where people have claimed that face masks and hand sanitisers are out of stock and that, face masks are being sold in some places at exorbitant rates. We will take severe action against any establishment found selling face masks at a very high price,” said Sawant.
“As far as Goa is concerned, we have taken all necessary precautions to prevent any outbreak of Coronavirus in Goa. I sincerely appeal to all Goans that there is no need for everyone to wear a face mask.”
“We have cordoned all those with suspected symptoms of Coronavirus and after isolating them at GMC, we have sent their samples for tests. All tests have returned negative for Coronavirus till date and some have also been isolated at home. Hence, there is no need for people to wear a mask all the while,” said Sawant.
The chief minister insisted that people who don’t need a face mask should not unnecessarily wear
face mask.
“Face masks are only for focussed areas where we feel that there could be chances of people being infected with Coronavirus and I fervently appeal to the people not to unnecessarily create a panic situation in Goa,” added Sawant.
Incidentally, the chief minister was seen holding a face mask as he left Dabolim Airport late Thursday night.
