intervention of Labour Commissioner

Employees belonging to the KTC drivers and Allied Employee's association on Friday announced they had deferred from going ahead with their indefinite strike scheduled from Saturday after the intervention of the Labour Commissioner.

The workers had served a 21-day strike notice to the management of Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd (KTCL) demanding the implementation of the Seventh pay commission to employees and to regularise contract workers.

The association had met along with supporting union association All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) represented by president Christopher Fonseca, KTC leader Gajanan Naik, and association members along with KTCL MD Derrick Pereira Neto, and assistant legal officer V D Harmalkar.

During the course of discussions between the two groups, Neto informed the workers that he would follow up the matter with the government.

"In view of the assurance given by the Managing Director of KTCL before the Labour Commissioner and the appeal made by the Labour Commissioner to the KTC Drivers and Allied Employees Association (AITUC) it has decided to defer their proposed strike to be held on Saturday," the association said.

The Labour Commissioner has further advised the Management of KTCL to pursue the matter with the Government to meet the demands raised in the strike notice by the Union.

The next review meeting has been fixed before the Labour Commissioner on January 17.
