MARGAO
It’s exactly a week now since the 32-year old labourer from Bihar was electrocuted to death at Malbhat, but the authorities, including the Power Department, Margao police and the Margao Municipal Council have so far failed to zero in on the people responsible behind the death.
That’s not all. Even as the Margao police have passed the buck on the Power Department to find out the reasons behind the electrocution incident, questions are being asked in certain quarters whether the men-in-uniform have got hold of the CCTV footage of the incident.
For, many say the incident was reportedly captured by CCTV cameras installed at an adjoining building, wherein the labourer is being seen falling down after the electrocution.
Incidentally, when The Goan asked Sub-Divisional Police Officer, DySP Santosh Desai whether the Margao police have found out whether the incident has been captured on the CCTV cameras installed in the building, he replied stating the police have taken possession of the required footage from the CCTV cameras.
He, however, said the Margao police will take further action in the matter only after receiving a technical report from the Electricity Department.
“This is a technical issue and has to be dealt by the concerned authority. In the instant case, the Power Department has to find out how the electrocution incident has occurred in the first place. The police have already written a letter to the Power Department to probe into the matter and submit a report,” DySP Desai informed.
Incidentally, it’s a week now since the unfortunate incident left citizens shocked and angry since the site where the labourer died was visited by school students, besides the Margao Municipal workers to collect waste from the adjoining collection centre.
The incident had also brought to the fore the crucial question how the advertising boards had come up around the iron panel after inquiry had revealed that majority of the boards installed at the spot had no municipal permissions.
