Ladies desk in all police stations soon

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Thursday informed that a special ladies desk to attend to female complainants would be set up at all police stations across the State, for which 300 new police women will be deployed within six months.

Speaking at the inauguration of the police station building at Pernem, Parsekar said, “The government will start a special ladies desk in each police station to provide better service, especially to female complainants”.

“300 new lady police personnel will be deployed in the State within six months, the recruitment for which has already begun. The process of filling the posts of lady PIs, PSIs and constables is going on, after which they will be posted at different stations in Goa,” said Parsekar.

The chief minister further said that the new premises of Pernem police will boost the efficiency of the police department while also helping to provide better service to citizens, which would restore public faith in the police department.

Appealing to the men-in-uniform to provide service with a human touch, Panchayat Minister Rajendra Arlekar said all infrastructure had been made available for the smooth functioning of the Pernem police station. He said police needed to be strict and sensitive at the same time, besides being modern and mobile, alert and accountable.

“The vision is to convert Pernem station into a Smart Police Station, imbibing modern technology,” he said and appealed to the people to cooperate with the police.

Earlier, the students of Bhagwati High School presented a welcome song. Director General of Police T N Mohan welcomed the guests, while Superintendent of Police North Umesh Gaonkar proposed the vote of thanks. Also present were ZP Member Ramesh Sawal, Pernem Municipal Council Chairperson Smita Kurtarkar, Vice-Chairperson Upendra Gaokar, PMC Councillors, IGP Sunil Garg, IGP (Range and Crime) V Renganathan, DySP Mahesh Gaonkar and others.
