Two boulders came crashing down on the road following a landslide on account of heavy rains at Jetty in Sada-Vasco on Wednesday evening.
According to sources, the landslide occurred at about 4.30 pm. Mormugao PI Shailesh Narvekar notified the deputy collector’s office, who, in turn, pressed other departments concerned to take stock of the situation.
The area was barricaded by police to warn people of landslides in the area, while the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) staff cleared the boulders from the road and electricity department staff disconnected electricity from a pole near the landslide zone.
The officials at the site included Mamlatdar Satish Prabhu, PWD engineer Vincent D’Souza, officials from electricity department and fire department.
A source informed that there are two houses which are dangerously close to the landslide prone area. “The Mamlatdar’s office and police inspector had already directed the occupants of the houses to vacate, but they are taking the warnings in a casual manner,” the source said.
“There is an active electricity pole near the house and we have informed the power department to take necessary measures as it can fall on the road in the event of a landslide and prove dangerous,” said the source.
