Large turnout will favour BJP-supported panels: Tanavade

PANAJI
President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Goa Sadanand Shet Tanavade exuded confidence of a saffron surge in the phase 2 of just concluded municipal elections. He claimed that high turnout will work in favour of canddates on the panel backed by his party.

"All the five municipal councils will be ruled by the BJP-supported panels," claimed the BJP state President.

"As per feedback we got from BJP-supported candidates and respective MLAs, our voters came out in large numbers to vote. Looking at this scenario, voting will be in favour of BJP-supported candidates," said Tanavade.

He claimed that for first time the situation is looking good for BJP-supported candidates in Margao, the council of which has been ruled by Congress’ Digambar Kamat for over several years now.

It may be recalled that the BJP, in the phase 1 of elections swept six out of the seven civic bodies including CCP with a thumping majority.

The polls to the five municipal councils had been postponed after a High Court order. The court had said that the procedures followed for reservation of municipal poll constituencies for women, SC, ST and OBCs were not correct. The High Court’s decision was upheld by the Supreme Court which directed the State Election Commission to complete the polls by April 30.
