Last date to file GST return extended, but problems still crop up at site

The central government might have postponed the date to file regular Goods-and-Services-Tax (GST) return, but GST site is still posing a lot of problems for businessmen and tax practitioners. Due to this, deadline extension has not brought much relief to the business community.

Few days back, the GST implementation committee had decided to post-pone the last date to file GSTR 1, GSTR 2, GSTR 3 to September 10, September 25 and September 30 respectively. GSTR 1 is meant to be filed for sales. GSTR 2 is for purchases and GSTR 3 is comprehensive return form.
Prior to this, businesses had filed a simplified GST return by August 28, but they are still supposed to file regular return in forms GSTR 1, GSTR 2 and GSTR 3 because simplified return didn't have all the details.
Earlier, the deadline to file GSTR 1 was September 5, which has now been extended to September 10, but the tax payers are still grappling with a lot of operational issues on GST website.
Rajendra Narvekar, president, All Goa Tax Practitioners Association, said, "I had filed GSTR 1 form for a client on September 1 but the website is still saying that submission is in progress after six days."
He continued, "Lot of clients don't have software like tally. In such cases, we take their invoices and enter all the data in an excel sheet and upload it on GST site. But, the trouble is GST website is not showing such invoices in the system. This is making
filing return very difficult
for us."
Even otherwise, traders and tax practitioners both have complained that it is taking lot of time to file GST return. Many traders had complained that they spent most of their time in filing GST return in the last days of August, which prevented them in focusing on business.
Prashant Barve, a tax practitioner, said, "It takes so much time to file GST return that we are almost thinking of giving up GST practice. Due to all this, people aren't able to find time to work."

NUTS & BOLTS OF REGULAR RETURN
The central government has extended the deadline to file regular GST return.
Regular GST return comprises of filing three forms: GSTR 1, GSTR 2 and GSTR 3.
GSTR 1 is for sales of a business. GSTR 2 is for purchases and GSTR 3 is comprehensive return.
One business's sales are another business's purchases. Therefore GSTR 2 is auto-populated, but it should still be checked to see details are fine.
GSTR 3 is also auto populated based on details given in GSTR 1 and GSTR 2.
The last date to file GSTR 1, GSTR 2 and GSTR 3 has been postponed to September 10, September 25 and September 30 respectively.
