PANAJI
Bharat Swabhiman Kisan Panchayat (BSKP), Goa region on Saturday demanded with the State government to include ban on cow slaughter under legal policy framework.
Briefing the media at Panaji, Kamlakant Tari of BSKP informed that the NGO working for the betterment of bovine population in Goa has passed a resolution demanding ban on cow slaughter in Goa.
“The government should encourage local species of cows under the Kamdhenu scheme. Cross-breeding of cows should also be stopped as it is marginalizing local species,” Tari said. BSKP applauded the stray cattle policy of the government.
Meanwhile, Subhash Parsekar disclosed that BSKP in association with the Gomantak Gousevak Mahasangh will host its third annual Akhil Gomantak Krushak Gourav mahotsav from November 29 to December 1, at Sawalwaddo, Pernem.
The three-day festival will be inaugurated by Panchayat and Forest Minister Rajendra Arlekar and Milind Kerkar of Pernem Farmers’ Association.
Apart from the award ceremony a blood donation camp, tournaments of local games such as and , display of varieties of bovine, snake exhibition and a talk on 64 varieties of rice grains will be held.
“The main aim of the festival is to seek dignity and status for farmers, a section of the economy which has been neglected despite being the backbone of the modern economy.”
Jaywant Parab and Pramil Rao of BSKP were also present.
