It was a Satyanarayan Maha Pooja with a difference, as leaders and workers cutting across party lines assembled at Damodar Temple in Vasco on Tuesday to seek divine intervention for the speedy recovery of CM Manohar Parrikar.
The satyanarayan pooja to pray for the speedy recovery of Parrikar was performed by the United Taximen Union (UTU), a union of around 350 black-yellow taxi operators plying from Dabolim airport.
Among those present included Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Mormugao MLA, Milind Naik, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha, South Goa MP Narendra Savaikar and former minister and NCP State President Jose Philip DSouza.
While Savaikar confirmed that Parrikar’s health is stable, D’Souza said it was time to forget party affiliations and pray for the recovery of the chief minister.
“He is my colleague and while he was the CM, I was the cabinet minister some years ago. I feel at this juncture, we must be humans first and leave behind political affiliation and pray for his speedy recovery. It is everybody’s responsibility that we now unite in our prayers for him. I am sure that Lord Damodar will hear our prayers and very soon we will see him back to continue his work as the CM of Goa,” said D’Souza.
Speaking to reporters, Almeida said there was no administrator like Parrikar and even present MLAs and ministers were learning some of his abilities to handle important aspects like finance.
Mormugao MLA Milind Naik said that it was important that Parrikar comes back soon and resumes duties because a lot of development work would go haywire in his absence.
South Goa MP Narendra Savaikar said he had arrived to offer prayers for the good health of the CM and appealed to the people not to believe the rumours being spread. He also confirmed that Parrikar was responding well to the medication and was stable.
UTU President Sanjay Naik said Parrikar was the only person who had worked tirelessly for the well being of small people and appealed to all the people to pray in every way they could for his speedy recovery.
