Legal action if Valpoi JNV repairs not done soon: PTA

VALPOI Upset over incomplete repairs at the school, the PTA at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Valpoi has threatened to take the matter back to the high court.According to PTA members, the school has been embroiled in a legal tangle since its inception in 1992, following a land ownership dispute.With the ongoing dispute over ownership of land, the JNV school management had been facing difficulties in sanctioning funds for periodic repairs of the school.After petitioning several leaders with little success, the PTA was finally left with no option but to file a petition in high court highlighting concerns over the dilapidated condition of the building and danger to students and staff.On August 26, 2019, the court had directed that certain work be undertaken immediately and the project was then allotted to a contractor. While work on the project was still underway, the contractor is reported to have left the site.Concerned over the incomplete work, the PTA recently convened a meeting to take stock of the situation.Claiming that the incomplete work has posed severe difficulties to staff and students at the JNV, the PTA members decided to go back to the high court if the repair work was not completed at the earliest.A memorandum in this matter has also been sent to various government departments in an attempt to highlight the situation and to demand completion of the repair work.
