Legal metrology dept seizes 15 LPG cylinders at Verna

The legal metrology department on Wednesday carried out a raid at Verna and seized 15 BPCL commercial LPG cylinders for rendering short delivery beyond the maximum permissible error.

A press release issued by Nitin P Purushan, Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology, South Zone-I, Margao said a drive was carried out by the Office of the Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology, South Zone-I, Margao in Verna and Cortalim to check the delivery of LPG cylinder as per provisions of Legal Metrology Act 2009, read with Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.

The legal metrology team led by Nitin P Purushan (Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology, South Zone-I, Margao) along with Ranjan M Borkar (Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology, South Zone-II, Curchorem), Bhupesh Dessai (Inspector, Legal Metrology, Margao-I), Azen Rodrigues (Inspector, Legal Metrology, Margao-II) and assisted by the staff, found a vehicle of BPCL gas cylinders.

The team later seized 15 BPCL commercial LPG cylinders for rendering short delivery to the tune of 4.17 kg, beyond the maximum permissible error, stated the press note.

Along with 15 BPCL commercial LPG cylinders, one bill book of the gas agency was seized during the raid. Investigation is under process in this regard.

A raid was also carried out at the godown of the gas dealer by the legal metrology team of Central Zone, Panaji led by Demu N Mapari (Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology, Central Zone, Panaji) along with Vikas Kandolkar (Inspector, Legal Metrology, Ponda-II), Satish Gawas (Inspector, Legal Metrology, Panaji) and Rajat Karapurkar (Inspector, Legal Metrology, Ponda-I) and assisted by the staff and checked the weight of 130 BPCL domestic LPG cylinder.

The legal metrology department has stated that Rule 18 (8) of Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) stipulate that all marketing companies, manufactures, packers, importers or distributors of liquefied petroleum gas cylinders shall maintain a check weigher or non-automatic weighing instrument, digital or analogue, of accuracy class III (Max. 50 kg, e=10g) to check weight of the liquefied petroleum gas cylinder.

The marketing companies, manufacturers, packers, importers or distributors shall provide to the delivery man to measure or weigh the correct quantity of the liquefied petroleum gas cylinder.

In case of any violation of the rules, customers are requested to lodge their complaint on Ph: 0832-2416432/2412037 and necessary strict action will be taken by the department in this regard.
