The leopard roaming in Villian-Sanguem.
SANGUEM
A leopard was seen roaming in Villian-Sanguem before it was picked up by a forest department team from the bathroom of a house on Monday morning.
Locals from Villian were shocked to see a leopard squatted along the main road in the village at about 6.30 am. As news of the leopard spread, villagers gathered at the site.
Despite motorcycles passing by the main road, the leopard remained still, seeking shelter wherever it could and moving from the forest towards the residential area.
Vehicles and a school bus passed by, while the leopard freely roamed the road.
As people started gathering at the site, the leopard entered the house of Subhash Gaonkar through the back door. Subhash Gaonkar's wife and son were inside the house at the time.
Upon noticing that the bathroom door was open, the leopard entered, and the door was immediately closed.
In a bid to trap the stranded leopard in a cage, a rescue team from the Netravali Sanctuary Department cut the bathroom door from the bottom and placed a cage at the entrance, successfully trapping the leopard.
The leopard did not resist at all, leading local villagers to speculate that it might be either injured or sick.
The forest staff informed that a medical examination of the leopard would be conducted before taking further decision.
