A number of taxi operators protested at the Pernem market following repeated orders to shut down the Blue Cab counter at Manohar International Airport in Mopa.

The taxi operators later met officials at the Pernem Mamlatdar’s office to discuss their grievances. Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar, the deputy collector, and the traffic police Inspector were also present at the meeting.

Former BJP Mandal President Tulsidas Gawas claimed that the Pernem MLA has been ineffective in resolving the issue and urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to intervene in the matter.

Members of the taxi association said they had been meeting the local MLA regarding their problems and even with GMR company on a number of occasions, but the issue had not been resolved. “If the government does not provide us with counters again, we will return the licenses and will hand over keys of our vehicles to the government,” warned a taxi operator.

Later speaking to reporters, Arlekar said he is fully aware of the problems being faced by the Blue Cab operators at Mopa airport. “I will try my best to present the problems of Blue Cab operators before Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and get them resolved,” said Arlekar.
