Repeated sightings of a leopard in the Kudnem panchayat area of the Sanquelim constituency over the past few days have created fear among local residents.

According to local resident Subhash Malik, the leopard has been spotted at several places, including near houses, on roads and in nearby fields. Villagers also suspect that a female leopard may have given birth to cubs in the area.

Two nights ago, the leopard reportedly killed a dog. The animal has also been seen several times during the morning and evening along roadsides, in fields and near waterlogged areas, which has increased concern among residents. Some villagers returning home in the morning after attending a local festival also reported seeing the leopard.

In another incident, the leopard was seen sitting in front of a house for some time. When members of the household stepped outside, they were shocked and frightened on seeing the animal. Locals said the leopard often comes to a nearby waterlogged area to drink water.

Residents also claimed that they saw the leopard jump across the road near the panchayat office and move to the other side.

A few days earlier, there were discussions about a black panther being sighted in Kudnem. The recent leopard sightings have further alarmed residents.

Following the incidents, Subhash Malik contacted senior officials of the Forest Department and requested immediate action. Villagers have urged the department to take steps to control the situation.
