It was a Goa Liberation Day celebration with a difference at Bogmalo Panchayat on Monday where elected members took the backseat and panchayat got a prominent citizen to hoist Tricolour.

Bogmalo Sarpanch Sankalp Mahale said that the panchayat wanted to give recognition of the works taken up by former panch Fulgence Rodrigues, a prominent personality in the village of Bogmalo.

"This may be probably the first time in the history of Bogmalo Panchayat and probably in Goa where elected members have decided to have flag hosting done by a prominent personality."

" Fulgence Rodrigues has contributed majorly for the betterment of this village over the years. He was elected unopposed thrice and has worked efficiently for his people. He is a well known social worker and has helped many locals over the course of time.

"To recognise his contributions towards the village, the panchayat members of Bogmalo invited him to unfurl the flag on Goa Liberation Day. This is the first time in the Village Panchayat of Bogmalo- Chicolna, that the flag has been unfurled by another individual besides the Sarpanch of the village." said Mahale.

" Fulgence formed Bogmalo Villagers Welfare Association to get preference for locals for recruitment in Bogmalo Beach resort . He also helped toddy tappers to enroll themselves in OBC reservation category and further helped them to get insurance .

"He also played a major role in forming a separate Village Panchayat for Bogmalo village. He has been an active sportsman and social worker," added Mahale.
