The Education Department has appealed to the management of Special Schools to depute teaching and non-teaching staff to volunteer at the upcoming Purple Fest, slated on January 6 to January 8, 2023.

In a circular, Director Shailesh Zingde emphasized that teachers of Class X and the students are excluded from volunteer assignments. “…all the heads of the special schools are requested to depute teaching and non-teaching staff of their school to volunteer the Fest with effect from January 4, 2023 to January 8, 2023 excluding the students and teachers of Class X,” it said.

The State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Porvorim in collaboration with Directorate of Social Welfare and Entertainment Society of Goa is organizing the three-day mega event in what it claims is the first time in India that will give an opportunity for every person to understand various capacities of persons with disabilities.

The Education Department has ensured to depute Balrath buses and their drivers to ferry delegates and invites attending the event.

This 3-day event will feature live performances, grand exhibitions, sporting activities, immersive experience zones, and an innovation mela while also including various competitions, accessible movie screenings, a mega car rally and discussions focusing on topics like inclusive education, employment, tourism, and independent living.

As per the organizers, the event aims to remove the barriers that make PwDs disabled like discrimination, stigma and stereotyping. It seeks to create the perception that disability is created due to attitudinal, physical, systemic, communication, and technological barriers that are present in society.
