Minister says action against dance bars is better late than never

Backing the efforts of Calangute MLA and the local panchayat to shut down the dance bars in the coastal village, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said that Goa can do without tourists who come for cheap entertainment like visiting dance bars and prostitution.

Khaunte also appealed to Goa Police to help the administration in the clean up act to rid away the illegal activities taking place in the coastal belt.

“The panchayat and the local MLA have woken up now on the ills of dance bars. Where were they all this while? But it’s a welcome step and the dance bars should be closed down. We don’t want people who come for this type of tourism in the State. We want people to enjoy peaceful and right things and take good memories of Goa,” Khaunte said.

“Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira and local MLA Michael Lobo have taken the right step to ensure clean tourism comes in. I have been asking this a long time ago. It’s good they have come together to carry out the clean up act,” he added.

He said the government requires the help of police in shutting down illegal activities and the tourism department will take necessary steps to stop the  illegal touting activity taking place in the coastal belt.
