Loutolim p’yat resolves to free village of solid waste menace

Loutolim Sarpanch Joao Fernandes, panchayat members and villagers on Monday resolved to take all necessary steps to free the village from the menace of solid waste.

In fact, at an awareness programme cum distribution of compost bins on Monday, the Loutolim village panchayat has expressed its commitment to resolve the solid waste management issues and to attain a “garbage-free” status for the village.

The composting of wet waste at source will be one step towards this objective, which will also help in creating compost, soil fertility and agricultural development, the panchayat pointed out.

The programme held in association with Swayampurna Goem was conducted by Nandesh Natekar, Project Engineer with the assistance of knowledgeable villagers. The distribution of compost bins procured by the village panchayat was carried out at the hands of the Additional Director of Panchayats. 

More than 100 villagers including representatives of important local institutions participated in the awareness programme and collected the compost bins. The Additional Director of Panchayats, Sangeeta Naik appreciated the panchayat for the proactive steps being taken and asked the villagers to approach her for any development proposals. The Sarpanch, panchayat members and villagers present for the programme also resolved to take all further steps necessary to free the village from the menace of solid waste. Celina Braganza, deputy sarpanch, proposed the vote of thanks.
