MARGAO
The Goyche Fudle Pilge Katir made their presence felt in the city here on Monday to question the government whether the people of Goa have got the liberation the freedom fighters had fought for against the Portuguese regime.
GFPK Secretary Santan Pereira recalled that the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had promised special status to Goa, adding that many other leaders had promised special status, but the demand has remained a dream.
He demanded to know whether women in the State are getting justice when rapes and violence against women is on the rise. “The murders are only increasing by the day. There is no real democracy in the State. Attempts are being made to divide the people on communal and religious lines,” he said.
Saying the freedom fighters had made sacrifices to liberate the State from Portuguese yoke, Santan made a fervent plea to the freedom fighters and the people to introspect whether Goa has been liberated from the true sense of the term.
GFPK President Jack Mascarenhas appealed to the people of Goa to save and protect what is left of Goa. “We have to focus on protecting Goa for the posterity. I am confident that what we could not do for Goa, the future generation will protect our State,” he said, while demanding to know how can the Centre take away the rights of the State on land, rivers, etc.
