Criticising the traffic sentinel scheme of Goa Police, Calangute MLA and Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo said the traffic sentinel scheme should be scrapped immediately as it is detrimental to the common man.
“The government should provide basic facilities to people on the road and then implement this scheme,” said Lobo, while speaking at a function in Candolim.
“People are baffled about this traffic sentinel scheme. In order to earn Rs 70, anybody can take photos of traffic violations and post it on the sentinel app. Vehicle riders are unnecessarily being harassed,” Lobo alleged.
“I met the DIG and told him about the ground realities of the scheme, but it is still in operation. National, state and internal roads are filled with potholes. They should be filled, speed breakers must be painted. There should be signboards to indicate these speed breakers. The government should provide all this before going in for the traffic sentinel scheme,” Lobo said.
“As the chief minister is sick and cannot travel across the state, I doubt he has an idea about the traffic sentinel scheme. I will request the CM to scrap this scheme,” Lobo added.
