Deputy Speaker and Calangute MLA, Micheal Lobo on Monday stated that the recently formed Goa Solid Waste Management Corporation under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has decided to encourage some panchayats to collect garbage in their areas.
Lobo, who is also the director of Solid Waste Management Corporation, was briefing media persons regarding the newly formed Goa
Solid Waste Management Corporation.
Speaking further, Lobo asserted that the State can be garbage free with cooperation from the panchayats, the locals and officers concerned.
“The Corporation has decided to collect garbage from every village at the panchayat level. I will see to it that garbage collected from the coastal areas is sent to Saligao Waste Treatment Plant for processing,” said Lobo and added that the state-of-the-art garbage treatment
plant is being praised in the entire country.
Lobo also suggested not to use plastic bags which are less than 50% microns and the government should try to reduce such plastic bags.
