Stating that he wanted to get into farming business, Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo on Saturday said he would get some farmers from Karnataka to learn new techniques from them.
“I have taken a field in Parra and want to be a farmer like you. Form next year, I will be there to cultivate paddy and plant chillies too along with you,” Lobo said.
The waste management minister was addressing a gathering after inaugurating two harvesting machines in the village of Parra. Parra Sarpanch Delilah Lobo and other panch members were also present on the occasion.
Continuing, Lobo said he wanted to employ the greenhouse effect to try and grow different coloured capsicums, cauliflower and cabbage.
“I will get some farmers from Karnataka who are known to have introduced advanced technology and organic farming in the agriculture business. We will take their help,”
he said. He further said anyone in Parra who were interested in the greenhouse effect could contact him as he was willing to help.
The minister said a lot of fields were not being used and he was willing to walk an extra mile to bring more fields under cultivation in Parra and in the State. “We want farming to continue in Parra. I also want the younger generation to take up farming,” he said.
He said he would personally bring another two harvesting machines to alleviate the problems of farmers in the village.
Lobo warned the farmers not let their cattle loose on streets as their presence of roads turn into menace to motorists.
“We request the farmers to take care of your cattle and not leave them in the open. We will seize any cattle that roam on streets and handover to the gaushala in Mayem,” Lobo said.
Earlier, Parra Sarpanch Delilah Lobo said this was the eight consecutive year that Calangute MLA was providing free harvesting machines to the farmers of Parra.
A farmer, Uttam Pednekar also spoke on the occasion.
Similar harvesting machines were inaugurated in Arpora-Nagao and Calangute.
