In a novel protest, residents of Curti-Khandepar in Ponda dumped garbage in front of their panchayat office at Curti-Ponda on Friday.

Curti-Khandepar Sarpanch, Deepa Naik, has denounced the act alleging that it is a political conspiracy against her.

The villagers gathered at Curti Panchayat office and alleged that since the last many days, the contractor was dumping the collected garbage near religious places.

“How can we tolerate such an act of the panchayat, which is allowing the contractor to dump garbage near religious places? People visit religious places for prayers and hence, it becomes a major problem,” Sarfraj Mulla told The Goan.

The villagers said they had told the panchayat about the situation and it had assured to resolve the issue, but it failed to do so.

Sources informed that the contractor collects garbage from door-to-door and dumps it near religious places and the issue was not resolved.

Speaking to media persons, Sarpanch Naik said she had assured to resolve the issue.

“We were supposed to convene a meeting of all the panchas to discuss the issue, but before that these people have done this big ‘tamasha’” she said.

“The collected garbage was supposed to be used for levelling bypass road (widening) and it would have solved the problem,” Naik said.

According to Naik, it was a conspiracy hatched by her rivals. “Such things never happened in Curti Panchayat jurisdiction. This is being done deliberately,” Naik alleged.
