King Fish and other varieties of fish may have turned scarce with fish from across the border not coming into the wholesale fish market since the last three days. Fresh fish, including mackerels, from the coastal belt came as a big relief to fish loving Madgavkars as the local catch partly met the requirements.
A visit to the SGPDA retail fish market revealed that fish netted by the traditional fishermen and local boats made its presence in the market on Saturday. Unlike the last two days, fresh fish from the coast found its way in the retail markets, giving some relief to the consumers.
However, fish was beyond the reach of the common man with the price skyrocketing in view of the scarcity that has hit the markets.
“We had purchased whatever fish that had come in the wholesale fish market on Saturday. The price was slight on a higher side due to scarcity,” remarked a SGPDA retail vendor.
