PERNEM
Pernem Deputy Collector Ravishekhar Nipanikar had granted permission to 500 people to attend the birthday event at Mandrem but thousands were eventually present at the venue, raising questions about the ability of government officials and police in enforcing their own orders and measures to tackle a spike in Covid cases in the State.
In his order dated March 30, Pernem Deputy Collector Ravishekhar Nipanikar had granted permission to 500 people for the event, with strict adherence to social distancing and other guidelines of the health ministry.
“Permission is hereby granted for the birthday celebration at Mandrem High School ground on April 2.”
“As per the application received, people eligible to attend is 1,000, but the applicant has informed that people expected are 500. Accordingly, permission is granted to 500 people.”
“The protocol of social distancing and face cover shall be strictly adhered to along with all other guidelines of the health ministry,” stated the Deputy Collector’s order.
A copy of the order had also been sent to the Pernem police.
