The proposed Police Personnel Co-operative Housing Society at Raia village was in the news once again as local residents wondered whether the men-in-uniform are above the norms stipulated under the TCP and building rules.

Even as local residents slammed the retired police personnel for undertaking land development for the purpose of extending the width of the existing road, they wondered why the police housing society is yet to display the permissions granted by the authorities towards the development of the land.

When a retired assistant police sub-inspector was questioned by the media why there’s still no board at the land development site, he had no answer, but had the audacity to tell the scribes that they can get the answers from the police station.

Local residents led by former Sarpanch Xavier Fernandes cried foul over the latest land development, saying the existing road is sought to be widened apparently to obtain permissions for the proposed plots.

Interestingly, Raia Secretary Arjun Velip told the media that the complaint lodged with the panchayat over the land development got misplaced from the office, promising to order a probe into how the complaint went missing from the panchayat.

He, however, pointed out that no one has the authority to take up any development without the permission of the panchayat body, adding that he would ask the sarpanch to issue a stop work order to stop the ongoing work forthwith.

Sources said Sarpanch Esmeralda Gomes had visited the site based on the complaint lodged by the local residents.

They, however, have no knowledge what action is being proposed by the sarpanch against the land development.

A couple of months ago, the residents had cried foul over the cutting of the hill with the help of heavy machinery to make way for the police personnel housing society plots.

In fact, deputy Collector Snehal Prabhu had issued a show cause notice to the police personnel cooperative housing society to stop based on a complaint received from the flying squad alleging hill cutting in survey no 321/1 of Raia village panchayat.
