Sanguem Deputy Collector Ajay Gaude has issued a show-cause notice to a junior engineer attached to Sanguem electricity department for failing to submit a report on the incident of high voltage and short circuit at Kuinamoll-Sanguem on October 17.

Gaude issued the show-cause notice to JE Atul Naik, directing him to give an explanation within two days as to why disciplinary action should not be initiated against him.

Gaude had visited Kuinamoll in Sanguem on the day of incident and taken stock of damages caused to the house owned by Shridhar Shirodkar and to electrical appliances owned by other people due to the high voltage and short circuit on October 17.  He then directed the  JE to submit a report detailing the losses suffered by the people and cause for sudden high voltage which led to the damages. Naik, however, did not report even 3 days later.

Annoyed by his indifference, Gaude summoned the AE and other department officials on Monday. However, Naik was not present at the meeting.

When asked about his whereabouts, the AE informed that Naik had gone for a medical checkup.

Gaude then brought to the notice of the AE and other officials provisions of Section 56b of the Disaster Management Act, stating that any official on whom duty is imposed by or under the Act and who ceases to perform shall, unless he has obtained express written permission of his official superior or has other lawful excuse, be punishable with imprisonment  up to one year.

Gaude later issued a show-cause notice to JE Atul Naik for his alleged negligent attitude towards his duties, giving him two days time to reply to the notice.
