After locals demanded demolition of a nightclub in Siolim for constantly playing loud music, Siolim-Marna Sarpanch Sharmila Vernekar assured the gram sabha to take “strict” action against the owners of the nightclub for disturbing the peace of the local residents.
Several villagers questioned the panchayat for failing to take action against Talasha, a nightclub at Vaddy, Siolim which allegedly played loud music throughout the night till the wee hours of the next day.
“Talasha continues to play loud music despite numerous complaints made to the police and the panchayat. The panchayat should take tough action and demolish this structure which is creating havoc amongst the villagers. If the panchayat cannot take action then tell us. We the villagers of Siolim will unitedly bring the structure down,” said Sachin Revodkar, a local.
Another local, Victor Fernandes informed that senior citizens and students suffered the most due to the loud music which goes on throughout the night till 6 am the next day.
“I have also submitted several complaints against this particular nightclub. I don’t know why the panchayat members are remaining quiet,” Fernandes said.
“I don’t know if you (panchayat members) are under the payroll of this nightclub,” he further alleged.
Acknowledging the sense of the villagers, the Sarpanch said that she had twice issued notices to the owners of the nightclub in her previous term and will send another notice again now.
Angry locals said enough notices have been sent to the establishment and time had come to take tough action on the structure.
“I will take strict action. I promise,” Vernekar responded to the angry villagers.
