Questioning the delay in taking up the development of the Tivim football ground, the villagers on Sunday’s gram sabha demanded that the panchayat should first take up the repair of the ground and then carry out other works such as installation of a jogging track, children’s park, drainage etc.

Some gram sabha members also questioned the panchayat’s eagerness to take up development works in private colonies that have come up at several places in the village.

Former sarpanch and social worker, Robert Colaco set the ball rolling while initiating the discussion on the development of the football ground in Tivim. He said the village panchayat had appointed a “supervisory committee” to take up the development of the ground.

He also said that the supervisory committee had suggested first taking up work on the repair of the ground and then focusing on other works such as the installation of a jogging track, children's park etc.

“The sarpanch has taken some decisions on the football ground without taking the supervisory committee into confidence. Take all the villagers into confidence while carrying out the village work. We do not want to waste government money,” Colaco said.

Another local urged the sarpanch to take up the work on the football ground on priority so that everyone could use the football ground and other facilities planned in the project. “Take a quick decision so that the ground is available for us in the next season,” the local said.

Yet another villager reminded the sarpanch about his claim that the file on the development of the football ground was sent for approval and wondered how it was taking so long to get the work done.

Sensing the mood of the gram sabha, Tivim Sarpanch Arjun Aroskar assured that all the people in the village will be taken into confidence while carrying out the long pending demand of developing the football ground.

Aroskar also said that a host of development works have been taken up in the village some of which are tendered and some are awaiting financial sanctions.

“We will take all the villagers into confidence while taking up development works whether it is the football ground or any other works in the village,” Aroskar said.

He said many new members were elected in the panchayat and all of them were enthusiastic and wanted to do work. He further said that work on the football ground will be taken up in a sequence demanded by the villagers.

“As demanded by the villagers we will first take up work on the ground followed by installation of the jogging track and the children’s park,” he said. He said the development of the football ground will be taken up under the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Swayampurna Goem scheme.
