Locals irked as recently opened traffic median now closed near Zuari Gate 3

Chicalim Deputy Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav was also present at the site and sources said two jeeps of police rushed to the site after tension prevailed at Dabolim junction. Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha had expressed outrage after the traffic median was temporarily opened by the NHAI authorities without her knowledge and accidents had been reported at the site.
It may be recalled that the traffic median near Vales Junction had been closed, while the traffic median outside the Zuari Gate 3 was opened as a temporary arrangement, at the behest of Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho.
Acting swiftly on Saldanha's instructions, the NHAI closed the temporarily opened median t about 6 pm on Thursday.
The closure of the traffic medians at the Vales Junction and outside the Zuari Gate 3 sparked off anger among locals in the area and a group gathered at the site by about 7 pm.
"The people were told that if the traffic median at Vales Junction is closed, there would be an opening at Zuari Gate 3. But now the median which was recently opened at Zuari Gate 3 has also been closed," said Cassian Pereira of Dabolim.
"We are about 4,000 people in Dabolim and we are affected as both the traffic medians are closed. There is an opening at BITS Pilani, at Zuari Indian Oil Tanking and Metastrips. These are commercial sites, but why are residents being made to suffer? We have taken a stand to meet the chief minister," said Pereira.
When contacted, Yadav said the residents had gathered to oppose the closure of the median till the traffic circles at MES College
and Dabolim junction are constructed.
Beaches in Cortalim constituency to be taken up for infra development
VASCO: Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha along with the sarpanchas and secretaries of Cansaulim Arossim Cuelim and Velsao Pale Issorcim panchayats inspected the beaches of Arossim, Cansaulim, Velsao and Hollant in Cortalim constituency for the proposed beach infrastructure under the tourism department.
A meeting was convened in the MLA's office at Upasnagar office on September 5, which was attended by Cansaulim Arossim Cuelim (CAC) Sarpanch Martha Saldanha, CAC Panchas Jose Manuel Fernandes and Pascoal Pereira, CAC Panchayat Secretary Sapnesh Sawant, Velsao Pale Issorcim Sarpanch Henriques D'Mello, Panchayat Secretary Vidhur Phadte and Panch Nandita Dayal.
