Claiming that the tower may have detrimental effects on the health of children due to the radiation, social activist Sanjay Barde demanded that it be moved out of the school premises.
Speaking to media in the presence of Sitesh More and Suraj Kambli on Wednesday afternoon, Barde said the Rajasthan high court in Jaipur had passed an order in 2012 warning telephone companies not to construct mobile towers in campuses of schools, playgrounds and hospitals. “Despite this, the government is playing with the lives of little children, which is sad,” claimed Barde.
“On one hand, the government offers mid-day meals to schoolchildren and on the other hand, allows permission to construct mobile towers in school campuses, thus playing with their lives,” he alleged.
He claimed that tower companies offer huge rents which lures the government to allow mobile towers close to schools or hospitals, and pointed out that the school has children from low economic status.
“We oppose this mobile tower and it should be removed from the school campus immediately, along with another such tower constructed at the special school children’s school at Khorlim,” demanded Barde.
