With haphazard parking of vehicles along the road leading to Bambolim village outside the GMC Super Speciality Block, some affected locals protested by parking a two-wheeler at the exit of the hospital on Wednesday.
The action was taken by former Curca deputy sarpanch Marvin Gonsalves to highlight the plight of the Bambolim locals who have to face difficulty in getting in and out of the village due to haphazard parking along the road meant for the villagers.
As the stand-off ensued for a while, the Agassaim police made their presence at the site and tried to persuade Gonsalves to move his bike.
But Gonsalves remained firm that action has to be taken against those parking vehicles in a no-parking area as it is creating difficulty for the villagers using the road.
It was only after a while, after assurance of action by the police, that Gonsalves moved his bike.
Later, speaking to The Goan, Gonsalves informed that due to the parking of vehicles in a no-parking zone along the road outside the GMC super speciality hospital, the locals are inconvenienced as they cannot move freely in their vehicles along the road.
“We are facing this situation on a daily basis and fed up with the same, we decided it was enough which is the reason why we decided to protest so that the issue is highlighted,” Gonsalves said.
He further blamed hospital authorities for the vehicles getting parked on the village road as they said that the security personnel do not allow vehicles to enter the parking area of the block.
There is ample parking space inside but the security is not allowing the vehicles inside due to which such a situation arises, Gonsalves alleged.
He further demanded that if action is not taken against the vehicles parked in a no-parking zone along the village road, then they will be forced to protest on a larger scale.
“This was only a token protest. If no action is taken then we will hold a larger protest with more numbers,” Gonsalves warned.
Even as some Bambolim locals protested inaction against vehicle owners for parking in a no-parking area along the village road outside the Super Speciality Block, St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar informed that he has been raising the issue on a regular basis.
