Raia village has witnessed an incident wherein miscreants have razed down a compound wall in the dead of night. The owner has accused a rival party of being behind the incident. The accused party, however, has firmly rejected the allegation, stating that although there was a dispute over the compound wall, they were not involved in its demolition.
The BJP has demanded action in the matter. BJP ST leader Anthony Barbosa has called for action by the Maina Curtorim police against the culprits and justice for the Abreu family.
When contacted, Maina Curtorim police station in-charge Arun Desai said he has called the complainant and the other party to discuss the issue on Thursday. PI Desai mentioned that a dispute had arisen between them over the construction of the compound wall, with the owner asserting it was built with necessary permission, while the rival party claimed it was an encroachment.
PI Desai informed that the police will initiate action after the meeting between the parties on Thursday. Questions remain about who is behind the incident, which occurred on the night of June 22. The Abreu family has stated that CCTV footage shows six persons were involved in the demolition of the compound wall.
“The miscreants took advantage of the incessant rains on the night of June 22. We woke up after hearing a loud sound at around 1:30 am only to find six persons demolishing the compound wall. By that time, the miscreants had already razed down around 57 metres of the compound wall, causing a loss of Rs two lakh,” said Oscar Abreu.
