Local councillors, former councillors, and business community members in Curchorem are strongly advocating for Curchorem to be designated the headquarters of Goa's proposed third district.
They have commended the State government for considering Curchorem, emphasising that the town already possesses the necessary infrastructure.
“If Curchorem can serve as the garbage collection hub for four talukas, Sanguem, Quepem, Canacona, and Darbandora with waste treated at the Cacora Waste Treatment Plant, it certainly qualifies as a district headquarters,” said former CCMC Chairperson Balkrishna Hodarkar.
Hodarkar also pointed out the availability of ample open space for parking and a bus stand, catering to visitors from other talukas.
Councillor Sushant Naik added that residents of Sanguem and Dharbandora already pass through Curchorem on their way to other destinations, so making it the district headquarters would not impose an additional burden on them.
Local businessman Varun Kudchadkar echoed these sentiments, asserting that Curchorem is the most feasible location for people from Sanguem and Darbandora to access for their needs, rather than traveling further afield.
“The availability of the desired infrastructural facilities at Curchorem should not be ignored”, opined Kudchadkar.
