Locals have complained about mosquito breeding sites in Galgibaga and have blamed water accumulation due to road works for the Manohar Parrikar Canacona Bypass Road (NH-66).
Locals have complained that the roadwork by the highway bridge contractor had damaged the fields and in the absence of a proper drainage system, water accumulated in the area and became mosquito breeding sites. They also claimed about foul smell due to the stagnant water
The locals said they had been complaining about the problem for the last two years, but said no corrective measures were taken to rectify the problem.
After residents sought their help to contain the spread of vector-borne diseases, Revolutionary Goans members from Canacona Prashant Pagi and Sanjam Naique carried out a fumigation drive in the Galgibaga area.
Residents have also complained about an incomplete internal road near the Galgibaga bridge of the Canacona Bypass and added there were no streetlights along that internal road.
When contacted, Pagi said the Revolutionary Goans had also conducted a similar fumigation drive in Palolem.
