Asserting that the people of Goa have not heard anything positive from the Crime Branch in the Bismarque Dias case, the “Citizens of Goa (COG) “ Justice for Fr Bismarque group” has called for a massive meeting at the historic Lohia Maidan, Margao, on December 12, at 4 pm, to maintain pressure on the government, to expedite the investigation and find the culprits behind the mysterious death.
The COG has said that the movement will be taken to every taluka and village of Goa after the Lohia Maidan meeting if the government fails to unearth the mystery behind the death.
Addressing the media, the COG said the citizens had right from the very beginning insisted the appointment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), supervised by the chairperson of the Hum an rights commission, Goa, or a retired judge, as they suspected that the government is controlling the police/Crime Branch depts. “When the government gave the case to the Crime Branch, the COG decided to give them sufficient time, but till today the people of Goa has not heard anything positive from the Crime Branch. We had given the government 10 days time, to fulfill our demands. Hence, we are left with no choice but to take this agitation to every part of Goa, starting from Lohia Maidan on December 12," stated Kennedy Afonso.
He demanded to know why the DNA profiling of the vest is not complete till date, almost 17 days have passed since the vest was found. “The Crime Branch says that the vicera report will come first, and then the vest DNA report will come at the end of the month after 25 days from now. This is highly suspicious as reliable sources say that a DNA profiling takes a few hours. From this it becomes very clear that the government is trying to delay the matter until the vicera report is out, for reasons best known to them," Afonso said.
The COG also demanded that the call details of Bismarque Dias, Joyson, Ganesh, Parmeshwar, must be made public or given to the advocate of the deceased. Similarly, the group demanded that the police should investigate and interrogate, and also obtain the call details of Jack Monteiro, and Assmucao Rubin Fernandes, against whom Bismarque Dias had filed a complaint, two days prior to his death, as the group suspect that the police is not conducting the investigation properly.
Suspecting a political conspiracy into the death of Bismarque Dias, with far reaching political ramifications, with the BJP government trying to impose RP21, barely 27 days after his death, that too during the Christmas season, hardly giving the people any time, the group said the whole of Goa knows that Bismarque Dias wanted the RP21 to be de-notified, as it would spell doom for Goa.
COG also backed the demand of noted Town Planner Edgar Ribeiro, who had resigned from the task force in protest, had clearly stated that the RP21 must be de-notified and be sent back to the people, to correct the blatant errors in it, and COG fully backs this demand.
