The Smart City Proposal (SCP) has been forwarded to the State government for its final approval, after which it will be sent to the Centre so that Panaji can make it to the list of first 20 smart cities to be qualified across the Country under the Smart City Mission of the Union Ministry of Urban Development.
Speaking to The Goan, Panaji MLA Siddharth Kuncalienkar said, “The state-level high powered steering committee (HPSC) had first given its nod for the proposal. It was then put up before the Council which granted its nod. Now, we are waiting for the approval from the State government, after which it will be sent to the Centre so that Panaji can qualify as one of the 20 Smart Cities for which it will receive funds under the Smart City Mission.”
CCP, in its special meeting held on December 2, had approved the smart city proposal. It is likely to be sent to the Centre by December 14.
Earlier, the SCP was approved at the HPSC meeting chaired by Chief Secretary R K Shrivastav. The meeting had also discussed the sources for funding the projects, which included financing on a public-private partnership model and also by way of income generated through the project. The State government is likely to fund an amount of Rs 50 crore annually for the Smart City Mission.
