The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) employees and other labourers have threatened to strike work on December 28, after claiming that they have not been provided with benefits and other allowances.
The employees, who are affiliated to the Goa Municipal Employees Association, have served a notice threatening to go on strike on December 28.
In their strike notice, the employees have claimed that despite deducting their PF from their monthly salary, the council had failed to pay their PF amount to them at the end of their service. They have denounced this as illegal, unjustified and warranted criminal action for misappropriation of fund.
The notice further states that council had not paid their grade, uniform and festival allowances.
The notices also states that the council has not paid their bonus for the year ending March 31, 2915, despite repeated request and remainders, and had not paid two months salaries of the daily wage workers.
The notice added that the council has also failed to implement the minimum wages, which is Rs 323 per day, and had failed to give due promotions to the eligible workmen, who are due for promotions.
The notice further added that despite repeated reminders and requests, the council had failed to comply with their demands, compelling them to go on strike on December 28.
When contacted, MMC Chief Officer L S R Pereira, who is holding additional charge as chief officer of MMC, stated that he was not aware of the strike notice.
“I will be able to comment on it only after going through the notice,” said Pereira.
