As many as six cabinet ministers and 17 legislators have skipped the mandate to file their annual statement of assets before the Goa Lokayukta, according to a report dispatched to the governor by the anti-corruption ombudsman.
However, as per the Lokayukta Act, the legislators get an additional two-month grace period to submit the annual statement of their assets to the Lokayukta and if they fail to do so, their names get published in newspapers.
Goa Lokayukta Justice PK Mishra has meanwhile, issued notices to all legislators as per the Goa Lokayukta Act to submit details of their assets for the year 2018-19. In the notices, he has said that the law is applicable to all elected representatives and all should abide by the law’s provisions and submit their asset details within the stipulated time frame.
The law stipulates that all ministers, MLAs, zilla panchayat members, village panchayat members and elected representatives of civic bodies shall give details about their assets to the Lokayukta.
Last year, the Lokayukta had published names of several elected representatives who had failed to comply.
