Amidst allegations that repair work on the collapsed Gabion Wall was being carried out on Thursday night, angry locals of Loliem yet again stopped the contractor from carrying out the work on the newly constructed 4-lane road at Maxem.
Officials from GCZMA and Captain of Ports later inspected the new bridges on river Galgibaga and Maxem creek on Friday and are reported to have found mud still dumped in the river Galgibaga. The contractor was then directed to remove the mud.
Some residents of Loliem had rushed to the site at about 9 pm on Thursday and virtually forced the contractor to stop the repair work.
A video of ongoing repair work of the Gabion Wall along the 4-lane road in Maxem at 9 pm on Thursday was then circulated on social media by local environmentalist Denis Fernandes, who accused the contractor of carrying out the works.
Barely two days ago, locals had forced the contractor to halt repair works of the collapsed Gabion Wall and demanded the extension of the Maxem bridge by two additional spans in place of the 100-mtr road constructed by reclaiming the Maxem-Creek.
