Loutolim villagers on Sunday asked the Captain of Ports officials to come clear whether the government intends to repair the jetty at Rassaim to handle passengers or goods or both.
Captain of Ports officials who had an interaction with the villagers after the Sunday gram sabha were questioned over how the proposal that the government came out with to develop the jetty at Rassaim had both passengers and goods. Some villagers expressed apprehension that one day the jetty would be utilized only for cargo handling.
When the officials sought to allay apprehensions that the jetty once repaired will not handle goods, people demanded that the Captain of Ports come out with a fresh proposal if they are serious in developing the jetty only to handle passengers.
Earlier, members discussed the issue of mobile towers approved by the gram sabha at the previous meeting. Sarpanch Inacinha Fernandes informed that the panchayat would issue NOCs for installation of four mobile towers only after the companies obtained the necessary permissions from the authorities.
The gram sabha also deliberated on the payment of fees for the panchayat lawyer, with Joaquim Gracias threatening to move the court if the fees do not conform to the rates notified by the government.
