MARGAO: City-based Loyola High School on Sunday became the first school in Goa to have an on grid solar power system for the institution with 15KW capacity.
Adding momentum to the on-going Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Loyola High School has been powered by Solar energy, a project initiated and executed by ex-Loyolites under the banner of Loyola Ex-Students Association (LESA).
The project was commissioned at the hands of Br. Nigel Alfonso (SJ0, an ex-Loyolite in the presence of Principal Fr Basil Vago (SJ), Fr Simon D’Mello (SJ), Fr Willy Rodrigues (SJ), Fr Desmond, Elric Pereira, President of Loyola Ex-Students Association along with (LESA) managing committee and ex-Loyolities here on Sunday.
LESA Chief Elric Pereira said that the solar power project for their alma mater has been undertaken keeping in mind the effects of greenhouse gases. “We are very happy to have commissioned the solar energy project for Loyola high school today. It is a great occasion for our association to have gifted this project to the school, especially as Loyola High School is in the midst of celebrating the Platinum Jubilee years of excellence,” he said.
LESA thanked School Principal Fr Basil Vago for giving it an opportunity to work with the school on the green energy project. He also thanked LESA members, who worked tirelessly towards planning and executing the project, saying that while the school benefits immensely for the project, the students should also learn more about the environment friendly solar energy project.
“Today, everyone is environmentally conscious and are on a mission to save Planet Earth. What Loyola High School has initiated is a major step towards environment protection, a project which is fitting for others to get inspired by. We are confident that other institutions will emulate this kind of solar energy projects in their campuses in the coming months and years,” Elric added.
